Gathering of Eagles Flight Training Scholarships
Purpose:
This scholarship will help young people achieve their dreams of flight at whatever level a need exists, with scholarship awards supporting EAA Air Academy, flight training and academic tuition awards.
Eligibility:
$1500 flight training awards (6) provided annually for Private, Recreation or Sport Pilot certificate.
- Must be ages 16 to 20 (must include signed parent authorization as required by law).
- Awarded to a participant who has received a Young Eagle flight and has completed the Sporty’s Learn to Fly Course, as required for certificate sought.
- Must have successfully passed Sporty’s Learn to Fly Course, as required for certificate sought.
- Submit a written paper (750 words or less) describing how this scholarship will make your dream of flight possible and impact your future (attach with dated application).
$7500 flight training scholarship (2) awarded annually for Private, Recreation or Sport Pilot certificate.
- Must be ages 16 to 20 (must include signed parent authorization as required by law).
- Awarded to a participant who has received a Young Eagle flight and has completed the Sporty’s Learn to Fly Course, as required for certificate sought.
- Must have passed FAA written test for appropriate certificate.
- Submit a written paper (1,000 words or less) describing how this scholarship will make the dream of flight possible and impact your future (attach with dated application).
- Submit two (2) written recommendations from a family member, mentor, teacher, or employer that has known you for at least one (1) year and their contact information.
Value:
$1500 flight training awards (6) provided annually for Private, Recreation or Sport Pilot certificate. Also 2 $7,500 flight training scholarships
Application Submission Process and Completion Date:
Applications accepted January 1 through March 31 only.
Selection Process:
- Awarded to a participant who has received a Young Eagle flight and has successfully passed the Sporty’s Learn to Fly Course, as required for certificate sought.
- Must submit copy of Sporty’s Learn to Fly Course completion certificate.

My name is Birhanu Gebrmeskel. I am 23 years old. I live in israel and as an aspiring pilot and a recent immigrant to Israel from Ethiopia, my journey has been filled with challenges, hopes, and dreams.Growing up in Ethiopia, I was always fascinated by the skies above. I would spend hours watching airplanes fly overhead, imagining myself in the cockpit, navigating through the clouds. Despite the economic and social challenges my family faced, I held on tightly to my dream of becoming a pilot.
In 2021, my family and I arrived in Israel with hope in our hearts and determination in our minds. However, settling into a new country brought its own set of challenges. From learning a new language to adapting to a different culture and to be a soldier in Israel Air Force.
At the core of my suitability lies my intelligence and academic achievements. Throughout my academic journey, I have consistently demonstrated a keen intellect and a thirst for knowledge, resulting in exemplary ranks and accolades. These accomplishments not only reflect my dedication to academic excellence but also attest to my ability to grasp complex concepts and apply them effectively—a quintessential trait for aspiring aviators.
However, beyond academic prowess, what truly sets me apart is my unwavering commitment to serving others. My aspiration to become a pilot is not merely rooted in personal ambition but also in a deep-seated desire to make a tangible difference in people’s lives. Whether it is providing humanitarian aid in remote regions, assisting in disaster relief efforts, or simply offering transportation to those in need, I see aviation as a powerful tool to positively impact communities worldwide.
Moreover, my experience in the Israel Air Force, where I currently work in aircraft maintenance, has further fueled my passion for aviation.
