AOPA Richard Santori Flight Training Scholarship $5,000

Purpose:

This scholarship was designed to encourage and support young people to pursue recreational aviation as well as professional aviation careers.

Eligibility:

•Must have a current FAA student pilot certificate at time of application

•Be a US citizen, or US permanent resident

•Be at least 16 years of age at the time of application

•Be a current and paid member of AOPA at time of application and when the scholarship is awarded.

•Not have completed the FAA written exam at time of application.

$5,000

Selection Process:

Applicants will be selected for this scholarship based on their financial need, as well as their passion for aviation.

The application deadline is noon (EST) on Wednesday, May 31, 2017.

  • Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. No exceptions can be made for missing the deadline. Paper applications cannot be accepted.
  • Once you submit your application you will receive a unique link for an online recommendation form that is specific to you. Send that exact link to two individuals and ask them to complete the online recommendation form by the application deadline (noon, EASTERN, on Wednesday, May 31, 2017). Send the unique link to only two individuals. The online system will not accept more than two recommendations.
  • When a recommendation is submitted on your behalf you should receive an email confirmation. You can also log back-in to the application system to see if your recommendations have been submitted.

AOPA Flight Training Scholarship Application

History/Background:

This scholarship is funded from an endowment that was created by Dr. Gina Santori in honor of her late husband Richard Santori who was an Air Force reserve pilot and loved flying his Bonanza. Gina Santori a physician and surgeon from Aurora only practices pro bono cases for diabetic and renal patients. She began her career in medicine by earning her RN degree. Dr. Santori has a commercial pilots license in both sea and land airplanes. She established the endowment in her late husbands memory to provide scholarships in the fields of aviation, medicine, and science.
